Soil Mechanics Tests

In construction projects, the most critical step in building durable and safe structures is accurately analyzing the physical and mechanical properties of the soil on which they will be built. As Derin Ege Soil Laboratory, we perform soil mechanics tests using modern and accredited equipment in compliance with the standards of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change. Critical data such as soil bearing capacity, settlement potential, and interaction with groundwater form the foundation of your engineering designs.

Why Are Soil Mechanics Tests Necessary?

Every soil type responds differently to structural loads and environmental conditions. The bearing capacity, moisture content, and compressibility of clay, sand, silt, or gravel soils are entirely different from each other. Proceeding with construction without detailed geotechnical investigations and laboratory testing during the design phase can lead to irreversible structural damage in the future, such as settlement, foundation sliding, cracking, or even collapse. Therefore, testing soil parameters in laboratory conditions according to national (TS) and international (ASTM, EN, ISO) standards extends the economic life of the project and ensures legal safety compliance.

Main Soil Tests Conducted in Our Laboratory

On disturbed and undisturbed soil samples properly collected from the field, we meticulously perform the following critical tests using our advanced laboratory infrastructure:

  • Water Content and Unit Weight Determination: We determine the soil’s natural moisture content and density to establish its fundamental physical properties and soil profile.
  • Atterberg Limits (Consistency Limits): We determine the liquid and plastic limits of fine-grained soils to analyze their behavior under water, consistency, and swelling potential.
  • Oedometer (Consolidation) Test with Incremental Loading: We measure compressibility and volumetric strain parameters that are critical for predicting long-term settlement under structural loads.
  • Direct Shear and Triaxial Compression Tests: We determine shear strength parameters (cohesion and internal friction angle), providing essential data for slope stability, retaining wall design, and foundation bearing capacity calculations.
  • Compaction and California Bearing Ratio (CBR): We test the optimum compaction level (optimum moisture content) and load-bearing capacity of soil, especially for road, highway, infrastructure, and embankment projects.

Your Reliable Engineering Partner for Construction Projects

As Derin Ege Soil Laboratory, we stand by your side as an independent solution partner for all your construction, infrastructure, and geotechnical projects across Fethiye (Muğla) and the Aegean region. With our calibrated testing equipment and experienced engineering team, we do not only produce raw data; we deliver fully compliant, transparent, and engineering-ready reports aligned with legal regulations. We reveal hidden geotechnical risks through scientific data, helping you build the future on solid foundations.
